Transgender Day of Remembrance
Foundation News & Updates
November 20th is Transgender Day of Remembrance. Transgender Day of Remembrance was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. Today, we remember victims of transphobic hate, listen to transgender people and amplify their voices, and come together to fight transphobia worldwide.
At Saint Francis Memorial Hospital, our Gender Institute is designed to meet the physical and mental health needs of San Francisco’s transgender population. Our goal is to offer compassionate, high-quality, and affordable health services to transgender patients to improve their long-term health outcomes as well as their overall quality of life.
The Foundation is committed to supporting the Saint Francis and the work of the Gender Institute. Click here to read our President’s blog post titled “A Safe Haven for Transgender Health.” Mark writes, “As a health care foundation which seeks to make deeper contributions to our city’s health, we have begun to look at how we continue to support the outstanding gender affirmation medical work of Saint Francis Memorial Hospital.”
